Abstract
This session will bring together researchers from the UNSW Institute for Climate Risk & Response and the UQ Net Zero Observatory to present work examining public understanding of, and support for climate and energy policies. Across four talks and a moderated panel discussion, the session will discuss findings from national and international surveys and experimental studies that shed light on the behavioural drivers and barriers of policy support. The studies include investigations of whether conversations with AI can shift public support for climate policy, the interplay between and ‘spillover’ of support for individual action vs. systemic responses to climate change, and the potential for ‘attribute substitution’ to provide a psychological, mechanistic account of miscalibration when assessing policy effectiveness.
